Grade 5 - Students review the basic elements of art and the principles of design. Students are encouraged to use their imagination to improve critical thinking skills and self-esteem. Methods and materials used are clay, watercolors, oil pastels, colored pencils along with learning various drawing techniques.
Grade 6 - Students explore ideas through questioning, reasoning and problem solving. This enhances their ability to make creative decision in school and their daily lives. The methods and materials used are observational drawing, landscape painting, clay, perspective and various design techniques.
Grade 7 - Students experience a greater depth of study in both the creative and critical process of art. They use more complex processes and media to express themselves. The methods and materials used include oil pastels, acrylics, various sculpting materials, and the in depth exploration of color theory.
Grade 8 - Students are invited to express their feelings and insights about themselves, other and the world, both visually and verbally. They will use “visual studies” to develop their skills and increase their knowledge of materials. The “visual studies” encourage independence, craftmanship and risk taking which in turn develops self-discipline and self-esteem.
